Player welfare

Safeguarding & player welfare

The safety, wellbeing and best interests of young people come first in everything we do.

Protection of minors

We commit to complying with FIFA rules on the protection of minors, including the regulations on international transfers of players under 18.

Best interests first

Decisions affecting young players will be guided by their welfare, education and long-term interests, not short-term gain.

Families involved

We commit to working openly with parents and guardians, who will be involved in decisions affecting their children.

Our commitments

As we develop our programmes, including the planned Abia Football Pathway, we commit to:

  • Putting the welfare and safety of children and young people first
  • Complying with FIFA regulations, including those protecting minors and governing player representation
  • Supporting players to continue their education alongside football
  • Involving parents and guardians in decisions about their children
  • Developing clear safeguarding policies and procedures, with designated responsibility for safeguarding
  • Seeking appropriate background checks and safeguarding training for those working with young players, in line with applicable law
  • Providing clear routes for raising concerns, and taking every concern seriously
  • Acting with honesty and transparency in all representation and placement activity
